My best friend from so many different eras of life, spanning over 20 years. We have always dreamt of living together and finally got to live out that dream together when I followed her to Denver in 2019. Erin is hilarious and I often get credit for her jokes because I just repeat them with a better delivery. She is the most kind hearted, fun, consistent and genuine person. If I am going to go anywhere and I can choose anyone to go with, it would be Erin. I always know we will have the best time together even if that means we are going to Costco to buy socks. She knows everything about my life because she is the person I can tell everything to and we have been through so many beautiful and important life moments by each others side. To me, this is what makes someone your best friend and even beyond that - she is family to me.
Joelle Johnson - Bridesmaid
My best friend from college. My college experience would have been nothing without her. We met during our time as "sorority sisters" and were probably the worst examples of sorority sisters in all of history but we became best friends because of it. Joelle is always going to tell you like it is, which is something that I have always loved about her. She will always be honest with you and has a much softer heart than she lets on. We have spent so much quality time together and have so many amazing memories with one another from MSU, to Miami, to Denver, and back to Detroit. I'm lucky to have her as my best friend after all of these years and I can't wait to see what our lives have in store for us together as we move through yet another beautiful stage of life together.
Darby Kurtz - Bridesmaid
Darby - My gift from Denver, Colorado. I officially met her in 2019 and we have been inseparable since. My 4.5 years in Denver would have been really empty without her. Darby is someone that I can tell anything to and it will always be met with a listening ear and the most thoughtful response. Darby is also one of the weirdest people I know but you might not be able to see that through her beauty. If you want a good laugh, Darby will be able to provide you with that through some sort of strange comment or nickname that you didn't ask for. She is a blast and I know that every moment I spend with her, even if we are doing absolutely nothing, will be nothing but laughs, tears, fun, and the best memories. I am lucky to have met her and she helped make moving to Denver one of the best things I have ever done.
Emily Decker - Bridesmaid
Emily is who I feel is closest to a sister (or little sister) to me. I have been best friends with Emily since I was about 12 years old and I have more memories with her than I can even count. We truly have grown up together and know each other like the backs of our hands. We can communicate with a single word, text, a look, or a laugh. I think we can probably each predict what the other one is thinking or feeling or about to say at most times. Any time we spend together is just easy because it requires no effort - we can just be ourselves, whatever that is in the moment. Even if she doesnt come off as the most friendly right away, she has a complete heart of gold and cares so much about other people. She truly is a sister to me and considered a member of the Goldberg family, which is not an easy feat and I think says a lot about her (lucky her, lol).
Charlotte Waldmeir - Bridesmaid
Charlotte is my uncle. Just kidding - but we do call her Uncle Chuck. Don't be fooled by her stunning beauty, because she is also one of the weirdest people you will ever meet. Charlotte has been one of the most consistent people in my life and is someone that I can go for weeks or months without talking to and jump right back into our friendship/sisterhood with one single text..."I just..." She and I have spent a lot of time engaging in athletic endeavors together but my favorite times with her are sitting in a quiet room, just us, talking about deep life moments or about the individuals we will put in the back of "the van". Charlotte is also a therapist like me and you can see how natural it is for her with her gentle, warm, and accepting nature. She is someone who is always giving you her 100% attention if you are lucky enough to strike up conversation with her.
Jacqueline Hayduk - Bridesmaid
Jacnic, Ringo Rudy, Golem - we've got a lot of names for this special gal. She is another unique force of nature and someone I could always and have always gotten into trouble with. In fact, she, Emily, and I were called the "triangle of trouble" in middle school AKA JER. She is one of the hardest working people I have ever known and balances being a hugely successful attorney with an amazing mother. She also purely lives by the phrase "here for a good time, not a long time". You will certainly find her on the dance floor with her drink spilled all over her, so if you wanna have a totally unedited good time, find her. I have been best friends with Jac since the early early days and she is someone with whom I have some of the best memories of my life. She will always be honest and has always reminded me that family is not always determined by blood, but by choice. She is family and I know how many more memories we have to make together.
Whitney Stines - Bridesmaid
Whitters - she is one of the smartest and again, the most quietly hilarious people I know. She is one of the reasons that I have and love dry and dark humor - I honestly think I got some of it from her. Whitney and I have shared some of the most amazing memories together. We got to travel abroad to Italy, France, and Greece for a Summer when we were merely 20 and 21. She is one of the smartest people I know and thank god she let me cheat off of her in Italian class. Whitney has best intuition and gives the best, practical, and realistic advice - she has guided me through a lot of hard situations in my life, which is why I trust her, care about her, and I am so grateful for her. Whitney and I don't really need much to enjoy each other except for good conversation, a sandwich, a sparkling water, must-have, new-doll and a nice wall at which to throw new-doll.
Aubrey Sapala - Bridesmaid
As I write this, I realize how funny I think all of my friends are because truly, Aubrey could be a stand up comedian if she wasnt an amazing Veterinarian already. Even my parents have always said how hilarious Aubrey is, which I think says a lot. I also met Aubrey through my sorority. We got close very quickly and eventually became roommates which made it one of the most fun years of my college experience. For years, I would travel to and from Ann Arbor to spend weekends with her. Aubrey is my friend that I can talk music and movies. If you look at our chat history, its filled with YouTube links of trailers to new films, Spotify songs, and occasional "miss you" texts. Aubrey and I have lived apart for many years but despite that, we have managed not to skip a beat in our friendship and that is because every time I talk to or am with Aubrey, she has a way of making you feel like the most special person in the world and it is never anything but pure fun, adventure, and joy when I am with her. She is so special to me.
Grace Goldberg - Bridesmaid
The actual closet thing I have to a sister! My sister-in-law! I have known Gracie since she fell in love with my brother Jake about 16 years ago at Liggett. I am so fortunate Gracie is in my family and my life. I told her this at their wedding, but I truly feel lucky to have her. She is someone who I no longer just consider my brother's girlfriend, fiance or wife, but an extremely close friend and sister. We have been able to get closer and closer throughout the years and I have gotten to know what an amazing sister and sister in law, daughter and daughter in law, respected professional, and friend she is. She is a ride or die type of girl, has truly learned to take shit from no one, and is someone I will always have the utmost respect for. She is the reason I was able to have the most amazing engagement in Bermuda. I cannot wait for her and Jake to move home ASAP so we can finally start our family commune and raise our children all on one block together, but even if that doesnt happen, I will make sure that we always stay close even if there is an an entire ocean's distance between us.
Scarlet Woodrick - Bridesmaid
My longest friend. I have known Scarlet since my early days at Camp Maplehurst. We really became close when I was about 11 or 12, but I have known her since 2000! Scarlet is a perfect example of a friendship that can go for weeks without a lot of communication, but we can always pick up right where we started. Scarlet has been a crucial part of my life and my 'growing up'. She was next me when I first played spin the bottle, when we snuck out of our cabins at summer camp to meet up with boys, and taught me how to be the best prank phone caller ever - I truly carried that skill with me even after camp. She and I have experienced a lot together - both happy and difficult - which is why our friendship is truly everlasting. From trips in up north Michigan, to Ann Arbor, to MSU, to Denver, she has been consistently in my life for over 25 years and we have always found a way to spend quality time together. I dont think a lot of people are lucky enough to have long lasting and true friendships like this. I know we will always be there for each other and I couldn't imagine this day without her in it.
Dave Wolf - Best Man
Dave is just a guy.
Or so he would likely claim in situations of conflict. Dave and Austin are fraternity brothers and were roommates at MSU. They gravitated towards each other out of their shared respect for the fraternity house and similar interests, which at the time were country music and beer which I am sure comes as no shock to many. Dave joined Austin down in Starkville, MS while he was in grad school at MSU south. He slept on an air mattress for four months and grew close with Austin's other roommate, Vikram Kurve (or Papa Wik as Dave endearingly refers to him). His culinary and cultural horizons expanded as a result. Dave soon learned that the deep south does not offer the same comforts as his home, Armada, MI and returned back home. Dave and Austin have remained very close for the 16 years they have known each other. Always willing to travel to hang out with each other and willing to help with anything and everything. The perfect example happened just a few years ago when Dave flew to Dallas, TX to help Austin drive a 1,000 miles to move back home. Dave is one of the few that walk in all of Austin's friendship circles across the country. David would love to share stories about our friendship over the years so please don't be afraid to approach him, although you might just get..."I'm just a guy" as a response.
Patrick Stutler - Groomsman
Patrick or P3 (please ask him about it) was in the same pledge class as Austin, and he absolutely despised him during the first semester. Patrick was a model pledge and Austin was not, creating animosity at first. That quickly changed the following semester when we realized we were more alike outside of the parameters of being a good pledge. They would room together and continue to stay close after Patrick graduated early for love. Patrick is a professional social chair, responsible for coordinating many of get-togethers for our groups of friends, including five Kentucky Derby trips to Louisville and countless Stutler family holiday Glogg parties in the Glass City (ask him about these stories but beware he has no filter). After Austin's time in Jackson, MS had concluded, he joined Patrick in Dallas, TX at the onset of the pandemic. The two quickly learned that living less than a mile from each other is a dangerous thing. Those were some of the most fun years of Austin's adult life, countless concerts, rodeos, and a crawfish boil here and there for good measure. Patrick and Austin have been there for each other in their weakest moments. Patrick was the first person Austin saw after his stroke and for that he will be forever grateful. Don't be alarmed by his accent, he's not directly from Ireland, inebriated (well maybe depending on when you chat with him), or Texan (to his dismay), he's just Patrick. Truly one of kind.
Jake Fisketjon - Groomsman
Jake was originally Austin's sister, Haley's friend. They met each other at MSU South a year prior to Austin beginning grad school there. Jake had Haley's back in Starkville, both being frome places very far away, Williston, ND (now Bismarck) for Jake. He even went to jail to help Haley out. Once Austin arrived, the rest is history. They spent just about every Thursday through Saturday night together, Jake often sleeping on Austin and Haley's couch. Jake too graduated early for love, returning home to marry his childhood sweetheart, Megan. Broke college Austin opened a credit card just to be able to to attend Jake's wedding in Bismarck. Jake and Austin have stayed close by traveling across the country going to dozens of concerts, football games (he's Vikings fan but we don't hold it against him) and most recently UND Sioux hockey in Grand Forks, ND. Jake is one the most generous, humble, and caring people Austin has in his life. He is the father of three boys with another one (probably also a boy, sorry Meg) set to arrive just weeks before the wedding.
JP Doherty - Groomsman
John, JP, or his God given name JohnPaul is Austin's oldest friend. They were campers at Culver Summer School and were originally rivals rather than friends being in competing Companies. John and Austin went on to work together at Culver, leading the Basic Sailing Division in the Naval program. Which sounds official but it was really just Austin driving a Boston Whaler around, herding cats (campers) while JP slept on the deck of the boat. We became close and took part in some good clean fun around Culver's campus after Taps. Austin's relationship with JP would change the following Summer. Austin discovered he had taken a liking to his sister Haley and later found out she was hiding under his bed a few times when he swung by unannounced to hang out. Austin was initially outraged but not because he was with his sister, just that he was keeping it from him. From there, JP became Austin's brother he never had. JP married Haley a few years later and did whatever he needed to do to give her a good life, whether that be carpentry, teaching himself to code and eventually doubling his salary three years straight. His DNA just kicked in (ask him about it) and now he has two beautiful children, one of which he named after Austin. JP truly is one of the most interesting men in the world, he reads and does calculus for fun and Austin is honored to call him his brother. Even if he drives him crazy just about every day.
Reed Wood - Groomsman
Reed and Austin first met in Jackson, MS, when Emma brought them together to meet at Cultivation (Austin's favorite haunt at the time). Austin was with another Groomsman, Steve Munn who quickly went into dad mode and proceeded inform Reed that Rocco Abessinio was a mafia made man who specialized in a terrifying means of collecting debts (Reed or Steve will be happy to elaborate). While looking slightly concerned, Reed didn't flinch and Austin knew that he was crazy about Emma and he would be his brother for life. Reed married Emma not too long after that, asking Austin to stand next to him as he did so. Reed is a southern gentleman, a great provider, father and husband. He has an accent as smooth as the King himself, don't be shy to chat with him about football, baseball, hunting, fishing, and loving every day. Austin has only known Reed for a few years but there are many more memories to be made in the years to come, starting with the bachelor party in May!
Jacob Goldberg - Groomsman
Jake and Austin likely first ran into each other back when Rachel and Austin were still at Michigan State. Jake would come to visit his sister for a weekend of fun in East Lansing likely passed Austin like ships in the night several times. Jake played hockey (and just about every other sport) for most of his life, eventually coaching hockey in Canada after graduating college in Boston. His competitiveness is only rivaled by the bride and mother of the groom. Jake and Austin formally met less than two years ago but to the unaware you would never know. From going to PGA golf tournaments, Jake's bachelor party in Miami, and several trips to Jake and his wife Grace's current residence, Bermuda. Austin and Jake have become close and act more like brothers every day.
Eric Dornbrook - Groomsman
Eric is one of Austin's oldest friends, meeting at the very first freshman football practice at Grosse Pointe North HS. It is still uncertain what made them gravitate towards each other. Perhaps being similar in stature (but opposite in weight), both being special teams experts, or the mutual unspoken acknowledgment that the bench is where we will spend the next four Falls. Eric helped Austin get in with the cool crowd senior year and also led him to his very first beer at a high school graduation party. Eric and Austin both went to MSU and were in the same pledge class at the fraternity. After graduation they both stayed in touch and visited each other all over the country. It was their geeky side that kept them so close, going on countless movie dates together to go see the latest Harry Potter, Marvel, or Star Wars films and religiously following all things Game of Thrones. Eric and Austin have been through the highs and lows together from laughs to tears and even a few friendly scuffles for good measure. Eric and his family live less than a mile from Austin and Rachel in Grosse Pointe Park.
Patrick LaRiviere - Groomsman
Trick and Austin were pledge brothers at Michigan State and were neighbors with the fraternity the first year they decided it was a good idea to live in a glorified dumpster across from campus. Austin spent many a evening in Trick's room or as it was endearingly called "The Cabin" thanks to his roommate who happened to be the world's greatest outdoorsman (and still is). Trick graduated before Austin so many of their greatest weekends together came outside of the walls of the fraternity. Whether it was chili five way in Cincinnati or burritos in San Jose, Austin and Trick always found their way to the next tasty bite that they would always regret the next morning (be sure to ask him about Austin's morning at the San Jose airport). Each year, Trick (and his father the Commodore) graciously brings all of the boys together to take in the greatest race on Earth, the Daytona 500. If you have any questions about packaging, please don't hesitate to ask Trick about what's on your mind. Trick and his family live just a few minutes from Rachel and Austin in Grosse Pointe.
Brian Cottrell - Groomsman
If you have already read Trick's bio, you are aware of his roommate. The greatest outdoorsman in the world, Brian. Austin and Brian were also fraternity brothers and neighbors at MSU, with "the cabin" being the main landing spot for movies, hockey, and a good chance of Little Caesars on any given night. Brian also graduated before Austin and took his talents to Chicago. During Austin's junior and senior years, he would sleep on Brian's couch almost every weekend. Brian was deeply generous and hospitable to Austin over those years (and many years after that), allowing for broke college kid Austin to have many great weekends in the city that would not have been possible otherwise. Brian grew up in Hastings, MI (he won't let you forget it) but now resides with his family in Grosse Pointe.
Stephen Munn - Groomsman
Steve is a bit of an outlier for many reasons as far as Austin's friends go. Steve and Austin were neighbors (twice) in Jackson, MS. Forming a friendship over communal cooking by the respective pools at each apartment. While Steve was often mistook for Austin's father by strangers initially, most would quickly see that was not the case. Steve was endearingly (for most) called "the Mayor" around the apartment buildings, holding court all over properties. The neighboring restaurants even had actual seats with his name on them. Steve and his wife, India became family to Austin over the years and were there for him through some of his toughest times. During those times, a strong bond was formed over many weekends by the pool, feeding all of our neighbors, SEC football, and the College World Series in Omaha, NE. Steve and his family live in Brandon, MS not too far from Emma and Reed.
